About Gresham, Oregon

Gresham is a city in eastern Multnomah County, Oregon, with a population of 114,247 at the 2020 census, up from 105,594 recorded in the 2010 census. The city sits just east of Portland along Interstate 84, approximately 12 miles from downtown Portland, and serves as the economic center of eastern Multnomah County. It is the fourth most populous city in Oregon and the second most populous city in the county, sitting at the gateway to the Columbia River Gorge and Mount Hood.

The land that became Gresham was originally part of the seasonal hunting and camping grounds of the Clackamas Chinook people, who built plank-house villages along Johnson Creek and the Columbia River before disease introduced by European settlers devastated their communities by the 1830s. The first settlers arrived in the early 1850s to claim land, and the community was incorporated in 1905 with a population of just 365, taking its name from Walter Quinton Gresham, a Civil War general and U.S. Secretary of State under President Grover Cleveland. The city grew steadily through the early twentieth century as agriculture powered the local economy, then saw a population boom between 1960 and 1970 as suburban development transformed the area from a farming community of 4,000 into a city of more than 10,000.

One of Gresham’s most recognized community landmarks is the Congdon Hotel, built in 1911 by William Congdon and listed on the city’s Historic and Cultural Landmarks List for its critical role in shaping Gresham’s downtown commercial district. Blue Lake Regional Park, located along the Columbia River at the city’s northern boundary, is another beloved community asset offering swimming, kayaking, and picnicking that draws visitors from across the Portland metro area year-round.

Good to Know

Frequently Asked Questions

The most frequent repairs we handle are spring replacements, opener malfunctions, panel damage, and doors that have come off their tracks. These issues are common with regular use and are best addressed as soon as they come up to avoid further damage.

If your door feels unusually heavy, moves unevenly, or will not open at all, a broken or worn spring is likely the cause. Springs should always be inspected and replaced by a trained technician due to the high tension they carry.

A minor issue like a worn spring or misaligned track can quickly develop into a larger and more costly problem if ignored. Taking care of repairs early protects the lifespan of your entire door system and keeps your home secure.

In many cases, yes. If the damage is limited to one or a few panels, we can repair or replace just those sections without touching the rest of the door.

A standard visit covers a full inspection, lubrication of moving parts, hardware tightening, balance testing, and safety checks. Our technicians make sure every component is operating the way it should before leaving the job.

If your door is frequently breaking down, has significant structural damage, or the cost of repairs is approaching the price of a new door, replacement is usually the smarter investment. Our team will give you an honest assessment so you can make the best decision for your home.

Yes. Many garage door problems develop gradually and show no obvious signs until something fails. A yearly tune-up helps catch worn components early and keeps your door running safely and efficiently.

Do not attempt to force it back into place, as a door off its tracks can be dangerous to handle without the right tools and training. Call a technician right away to safely realign the door and inspect for any underlying damage.
